Byron E. Burke
Byron E. Burke a.k.a. ‘Burke’ is a 20-year music veteran, whose credits include DJ, artist, producer, remixer and entrepreneur. Burke got his start in 1981 in Chicago. Radio station WCRX, AKA’s and the ‘Bismarck’ were his baptism into the music industry. But in 1987 Burke gave in to his dream. He turned in his turntables and formed the group ‘Ragtime’. Eventually he and partner Byron Stingily hooked up with guitarist Herb “One Take” Lawson and formed the highly successful singing group ‘Ten City’. Ten City’s albums ‘Foundation’, ‘State Of Mind’, ‘No House Big Enough’ and ‘That Was Then, This Is Now’, spawned ten top 20 Billboard hits, and ten top 10 U.K. Pop chart singles and Gold albums in South Africa and Silver in the United Kingdom. Some of the hits from Ten City’s successful run include ‘That’s The Way Love Is’, ‘Right Back To You’, ‘Devotion’ and ‘Fantasy’. ‘Ten City’ and its music, is credited with revolutionizing the club music scene.
In 1995 Burke tried his hand as an entrepreneur. He created Rude Tymz Productions Inc. and relocated to Wurzburg, Germany. There he joined forces with a company called Caus-n-ff-ct and brought in top American dance music artists, like Ultra Nate’, Barbara Tucker, Kraze, Masters At Work, Armand Van Helden and many more. Burke is head of Rude Tymz/Time Plexx Music Publishing, with offices in New York and Chicago.
In 1998 Burke changed gears again, when he became Co-Executive Vice President of Prelude Records. He oversaw the start up of Prelude Pictures’ music division and was instrumental in creating the soundtrack for the motion Picture ‘Lost In Space’.
You can hear Burke’s musical influence as producer in music by such notables as Grammy Award winner R. Kelly, and Frankie Knuckles.
Today Burke is involved with another start up. He is currently Founder of Branch Recordings. where he charts the company’s day-to-day operations.
