Artist description
Drawing comparisons to Elvis Costello, Billy Bragg, and Ron Sexsmith – the music is a blend of hypnotic rhythms from the contemporary alternative scene supporting a simple twang. It’s meditative and chock full of catchy hooks. It could be described as country music or city music, but it’s definitely not in-between. The sound is intimate and vulnerable; the lyrics are incisive and heartfelt. The amazing band that played on The Year of the Apology includes Juno Award winners from Broken Social Scene – Brendan Canning and Andrew Whiteman. On drums was Emm Gryner’s “favourite drummer”, Dean Stone. The album was lovingly produced by Big Rude Jake co-founder Michael Johnson.
