Artist description
Straight from the belly of the beast comes CYANIDE, a trio of emcees and producers delivering 15 tracks of aggressive beats and rhymes on their debut CD “Cell Block Music.” Recorded and produced in prison, group members Lazarus and Adonis unleash raw emotion and sharp lyrics on beats by partner, singer/producer, Sean Whyte.
Cell Block Music is an audio documentary which takes the listeners into the dungeons of max and medium security penitentiaries in Ontario, Canada. Hosted by Soul Controllers sound crew in mix-tape style, Lazarus and Adonis spit lava while painting graphic images of prison life and inner city trenches, depicting the reality found in institutions such as Collins Bay, a notorious medium level prison known as gladiator school. From speaking on gladiator mentality (Gladiators,) to dissatisfaction with commercial radio playlists (Airwaves), isolation (Solitary), prison riots (Riot Up), hell on earth (Lock Down) and life struggles (Problems), “Cell Block Music” is a solid CD.
CYANIDE was formed in prison where group members met. Adonis had a drum machine and multi-track that he used to produce tracks for himself and other emcees in prison. Through mutual interests, and a passion to pursue music, they three decided to collaborate on a project to express their feelings and experience, bringing their music from prison to streets, without compromising content for airplay.
CYANIDE speaks to the streets in the language, tone and style they can relate to. “Cell Block Music” is a message and warning. That message is: when people don’t see or get shown more choices and options in life, they will use whatever means and options the see and know. The warning is for the music industry and artists that Cyanide come to run tings.
