Artist History
Brother Steve is a South Wales based band that
was originally formed around 1999, when Jamie
vocals) and James (guitar) began writing songs
while still at school in Llantwit Major, Vale of
Glamorgan. In the early days there were a few
changes in the line up as the band struggled
to find suitable members that would gel together.
In 2000, through school, the boys were introduced
to Chris Jenkins, a bass player with band
experience. Soon, after sitting-in on a few
practice sessions, Chris joined the band.
Now, along with the services of James' friend
James Palser on the drums the band would begin
to find its feet and make a start. The band had
started to become established locally, in the
South Wales area, and a number of Successful
gigs followed. Unfortunately for the band,
Brother Steve's drummer, James Palser was given
the opportunity to move to London and study at
one of the country's top music colleges. The
band could not stand in his way and were once
again left without a member. After holding a
series of auditions, the band decided to give
Dean Page, brother of guitarist James, a chance
to prove himself on the drums. Although the band
were originally looking for someone their own age,
Dean proved that he could easily hold his own in
the band. Dean joined Brother Steve early in 2003.
Milestones
As 16 year-olds in 2000, Brother Steve entered a
Battle of the Bands contest in St. Donats Arts
Centre, South Wales. It gave bands from all over
South Wales a chance to showcase their own music
to local people in the music industry. Brother
Steve entered the contest and played the only
three songs that they had written at the time.
The band won this competition and were given the
chance to spend a day in one of the top recording
studios in Wales, the private studio of producer,
Danny Chang, who was at the contest and expressed
a particular interest in the band. Since playing
their first gig at the battle of the bands in
2000, Brother Steve have played many gigs in and
around the Cardiff area. Barfly, Sam's Bar and Oz
Bar are some of the venues that the band played.
Brother Steve have also supported various touring
bands, such as Scandinavian band, Magnet, who were
recently touring with Doves and have been played
on Radio 1's Mark and Lard show. In August 2002
the band went into the studio to record a cd
consisting of 3 original tracks. Brother Steve
are currently playing regular gigs in Callaghan's
Irish Bar in Cardiff.
