JOHN COOPER - writer, guitar-slinger and acting whip cracker for THE NEW FAT - has whored himself out in all sorts of musical forms over the years. He has been a guitarist, bassist, keyboard player, freelance engineer and collaborator. John has shared stage and studio with a vast array of musical talent. Pertinent name-drops include Nazareth, Kim Mitchell lyricist Jim Chevalier, Lee Aaron, Wide Mouth Mason, Mike Stevens, David Wilcox, Ivanna Santilli, Gypsy Soul and Emm Gryner. John's own songs (from the independent Fat Lung album "Fatulence") received play and critical praise on radio stations as far away as Tokyo, Berlin, Paris, New York, Los Angeles and our own beloved CBC Radio 2. Reviews included "Canada's best blues-based rock band, geared up for the cynical new millenium", EarBuzz, Calif. ************************************************************************************************ BIL ELDRIDGE's first job, fresh out of high school, was to be the front man for Ten Seconds Over Tokyo, a band whose songs were featured in Bruce McDonald's award-winning film "Road Kill" (1989 Toronto Film Festival). The band toured extensively (including a showcase at L.A.'s infamous Roxy Theatre) and went on to sign a Canadian deal with Monogram/Sony Music. Next came the critically acclaimed Laughing Sam's Breakdown, whose New York shows attracted the attention of Spin Doctors producers Frankie Larocka and Frank Aversa. With Aversa at the production helm, Laughing Sam's Breakdown recorded "Soul Reflection" on Thunder Creek Records and two videos. In 1997 Eldridge was hand picked by world famous harmonica player Mike Stevens to lend his incredible vocal talents to the CBC commissioned "Normally Anomaly". With over 50 Canadian and U.S. tours behind him, Bil has received a ton of good press, the most accurate being The Toronto Sun's description of him as "a head-shaking, body-tossing ball of energy" (although some might consider this understated). Bil has finally found satisfactory asylum for his remarkable vociferation in THE NEW FAT. ************************************************************************************************ MIKE ROWE is completely at home on any percussion instrument that is unfortunate enough to get near him. Mike studied under legendary Max Webster drummer Gary McCracken before striking out on his own. His majestically bombastic style has fueled the groove of The Jim Chevalier Band, The Stand and WUB (about which ZROCK Detroit proclaimed "just when you thought it was safe to take a breath"). He has enhanced a virtual smorgasbord of "A club" cover and tribute bands. Nothing written here can give an adequate impression of just how brilliantly vital Rowe's style is; think Kenny Arnoff meets Stewart Copeland dictating a favored heartbeat of 140 BPM. ************************************************************************************************ THE NEW FAT is the band hatched by these three professional musicians. Their 15 song debut, "An Anarchist's Knack for Anachronism", is an apology-free journey into philosophy, sexual misadventures and psychonautic exploration. ************************************************************************************************
