Artist History
The Sounders were formed in Boston in the mid-90's. After performing in Boston and New York, as well as recording and producing their first album (HAPPY WITH THE TRUTH, 1998 Reflex Records), Joe moved to Los Angeles in 1997 and Robert followed in 1999. Their CD "Happy with the Truth" was completed in 1998 and had top 10 songs at a number of college and independent radio stations around the country. Overall, the album was added to over 220 playlists in the U.S. and Canada. In 1998, the song "Saving Grace" was chosen by director Steven Brill as a featured song in the independent film "Late Last Night" starring Emilio Estevez. Brill was unable to obtain the rights to a Bruce Springsteen song and felt that The Sounders were the right alternative. The song "When the Rivers Run High" appeared in an episode of the NBC series "Trinity" and the instrumental "The Sweet Smell of Success" has been the music for a weekly segment ("Staples Coach/Player of the Week") on CBS Sports "NFL Today" show during the 1999 season. Over the years, Joe and Robert have performed with Roy Orbison, Alex Chilton, Mark Sandman (from Morphine and Treat Her Right), Aimee Mann and Jen Trynin. |

Press Reviews
(About the album HAPPY WITH THE TRUTH)"...An honest collection of cool pop songs about love and life." David Avery, CMJ AAA Columnist ------------------------------- "...From the opening assault of "On a Lucky Day" to the ending fade of "Red River," "Happy with the Truth" is perfect for those rockin' road trips late at night. As with most "brother" groups, the Bernstein's vocals complement each other perfectly. Tracks like "Burning" and "When the Rivers Run High" have that Treat Her Right sound, while "Heaven No More" and "Red River" are a bit like Greg Allman meets the Eagles, leaving you happy with the Sounders."
