    Artist description
They don’t fight the power, they are the power" Village Voice Poor Righteous Teachers consists of Wise Intelligent and Culture Freedom. Critically acclaimed and worshipped by their peers and hip hop purists alike, Poor Righteous Teachers have always delivered a masterful blend of knowledge, bangin’ beats and pure poetry. What has always been the basis of good hip hop? It has always been about lyrical skill. Over the years many different styles have developed, but none as impressive or distinct as the lyrical wizardry and powerful delivery of Wise Intelligent. Blending a unique style of Jamaican chanting and rapid fire poetry, Wise always delivers an unparalleled vocal assault. "Culture Freedom and Wise Intelligent’s smooth, off-kilter voices are pitched against tracks that bounce like rubber and flow like lakes" said Billboard of their Black Business album. Throughout all of PRT’s albums, they have espoused the virtues of righteousness as embodied in the struggle of poor people around the world. Growing up in any ghetto in any country around the world is not easy. Urban decay, joblessness, homelessness, racism, drugs and death are just a few of the things that await the children of the world. "Our basic premise is, you don’t have to sin to be successful" says Wise. Culture agrees, "Our role in hip hop is to teach knowledge of self, to awaken people to the realization of themselves" It is fitting then, that it was Wise’s conscious lyrics that led the Village Voice to declare "They don’t fight the power, the are the power." PRT will always speak on and about the ghetto. Hailing from "Divineland" a.k.a. Trenton, New Jersey. Wise says, "We talk about what’s real. We can’t talk about prairies and rolling streams, cause there are no streams or prairies in the ghetto". Using many different styles from ska, hip-hop, reggae, and alternative, PRT appeals to a wide variety of fans. If ever a rap group was deserving of nationwide attention it’s the the Poor Righteous Teachers. NEW INFO....NEW INFO....NEW INFO...NEW INFO.... Poor Righteous Teachers return with New single and Video, "I Swear Ta God" from forthcoming album, "Losin' My Religion". (New Jersey) The story is a common one, signed to Profile Records, home of Run-DMC, Special Ed & Nine, Trenton, New Jersey’s Poor Righteous Teachers (Wise Intelligent and Culture Freedom) have been bangin out albums since the late 80’s with hit’s like "Rock This Funky Joint", "Shakiyla" and "Nobody Move" it’s hard to imagine why a label would sleep on this group. Fast forward to the 90’s and due to last year’s merger, Profile Records is bought out by Arista Records sending PRT to a new home with still no direction or support. Representing the finest New Jerusalem has to offer, PRT opens a new chapter and is about to rise like a phoenix from the ashes. With a new management team, Meridian Entertainment, helmed by Lisa "Chase" Patterson and "Hard Hittin" Harry", PRT’s battle plan is in place for the new millennium. Severing ties with Profile/Arista, PRT is currently embarking on an independent strategy destined to "pay off" for the new millenium. INTRODUCING MS. NARUBI... Born and raised in Trenton, New Jersey, Ms. Narubi offers her listeners a blend of hard hitting hip-hop, sultry jazz undertones, and a touch of melodic mood swings with pure poetry. Her style has been compared to some of the greatest: Billy Holiday, Nina Simone, Eta James, and Sara Vaughn, just to name a few. Narubi somehow bridges the gap between hip-hop & jazz without undermining the musical compositions and vocal power that is so often overlooked by her peers. Her sultry, raspy sound revolutionizes the “sing-sing” rhythm that is so often duplicated and sampled into today’s hip-hop culture. Sexy, smooth , and cultured could be used to describe this young poetic songstress who has just begun to move the hip-hop masses. Before teaming up with the critically acclaimed Poor Righteous Teachers, also from Trenton New Jersey, most of her work was done on a grass roots level. From free-style sessions, to open-mike shows, she has excelled at keeping her audiences at awe. In 1997, Narubi rocked side by side with the much worshipped Fugees at the Fairleigh Dickinson University Spring Festival. She also opened up for Big Pun in 1998 for the Montclair State Spring Festivals. When asked if Narubi thinks she is ready for the big dance, “I have paid my dues”. And dues she has paid. Not only has she endured the ills of growing up in the ghetto without a mother or father, she has managed to sustain and maintain a life dedicated to the suffrage of her people. “Its difficult to survive in a state of emergency.......where are the teachers? Narubi attempts to unveil some of these political issues through her music which far exceeds any and all of her so-called competition. Now that Ms. Narubi is featuring with the infamous Poor Righteous Teachers, her dominance has only excelled. With the powerful and unrelenting delivery of Wise Intelligent and Culture Freedom, Ms. Narubi blends perfectly giving listeners a very earthy cultural sound which takes you back to the days of harmonic quartets and accapella tunes. No wonder Funk Master Flex and Red Alert of Hot 97 labeled her as “.....the hottest upcoming-underrated female vocalist...”
