Artist description Ophur's latest independent release The Morphasis EP showcases eight savory art-rock tracks morphing through an array of unique tones and creative progressions. The first track titled "Picture", begins with a modern two-chord deftonesque sound but with more of an up-tempo, then morphing into U2 styled delay verses. The Chorus melodies feel open with catchy phrases that manage to steer clear of pop cliché. This track has been featured on Chicago biggies The Zone, Q101 and XRT as well as numerous Midwest college radio outfits. The EP continues with an array of tunes teaming with intricate guitar riffs juxtaposed with punch-u-in-the-face rhythm and bass. Ophur's songwriting and sound draws from a variety of artists including The Dismemberment Plan, Incubus, Björk, Pat Metheny, and U2. Their lead vocalist, Benson Krause, brings a sort of ultra swoon-rock tone with heavily emotional lyrics. When asked what type of music the band plays, Benson replies, "that's for you to decide, I gotta feed my kitten".

Artist History Ophur was originally formed when guitarist, Bryn Martin, got off of his school bus feeling particularly needy of a friend and asked, now lead vocalist, Benson Krause, if he could use help digging a hole in his yard. The duo began writing songs together and shortly after added drummer, Nick Palazzo. In April of 1999 bassist Bryan Walker was snatched up from another local rock band completing the present quartet. Since then, the group has quickly carved out a growing niche in the vast Chicago music scene through charged live performances and relentless self promotion. It's a modern rock sound that's turning the ears of both local and national music critics. To date, Ophur has managed to independently sell and distribute nearly ten thousand CDs to fans in the US, Europe and Asia. Currently they are working on recording their third album titled Death to the Chameleon.
