Press Reviews
M.Aitken has an extremely distinctive style, with a very polished sound, perhaps best exemplified by his tune entitled "NEVER AGAIN". I gotta say, though, that I am having some major deja vu while listening to this track. Where have I heard this song before?!? Maybe it's just because it so strongly evokes memories of the hip-but-moody new wave music I grew up with. There are a lot of things I like about this track. It is engineered quite nicely, perfectly blending the tight percussion and bass in the center, with lots of verby guitars bouncing around on both sides. The rhythm tracks are excellent, with great interplay between the kick and the bass guitar. The guitar work is also great. I love the use of delay and reverb, along with the layered dubs of guitar on guitar. Great stuff. The song structure is also excellent (but see below!). I LOVE the chorus: a tremendously original and unique sound (that also causes most of my deja vu problems). I swear I've heard something like this on the radio sometime in my past--which should be a testament to the quality of these passages in the song. The chorus in this tune exemplifies everything that is good about new wave, to my ears. Finally, the vocals are superlative, perfectly matched to the style of the song. M.Aitken's voice reminds me strongly of singers like Richard Butler; dark and heavy but very melodic. Very very well done. |
