Artist History ASTROSENSITIVE, the Trip Hop parisian trio, is ths coming together oh three passionate musicians. They have all had a long love affair with music for ages : Sami, 38 years old, has had a passion for music in his blod since early youth : « Since I was 16 years old,I´ve played music ; when I was 25,Idecided to earn my living by it, by playing with quite a lot of groups. I compose and play the bass : at first, I was a guitarist, but quickly, I turned to the bass ; in Guadeloupe, where I lived for two years, we played in a pub every weekend. On returning to Paris, I jammed a lot with music groups like « Assez » (popular in Brittany), pop (Bishop), rock, funk, jazz-rock, funk-rock, made many sessions studio, before meeting Fred (33 years old), who belonged to one of these groups, Caatinga. »They would play on the club scenes of the Paris area more than 150 times ; during this time, Sami and Fred were mixing, getting to know each other. Another further meeting put the signature on Astrosensitive´s birth certificate. Among others Caatinga´s sound engineer, Delphine (30 years old) was inspired by Sami and Fred´s musical research, and thus embarked on the adventure. Thus all eventually led to facts : the setting up of a common project, an album where all their most crazy dreams could flourish. Astrosensitive was born.The album took one year to mature, to build, to develop. The interaction between the members is one of the keys of the success and the homogeneity of the group. In Fred´s opinion, the instrumentalist knew how to make the compositions match his lyrics and the atmospheres he wishes to create : « Sami is a musician with a big M, he plays several instruments, he´s inventive and doesn´t confine himself to doing difficult pieces, he knows that moving music can be composed with a few chords. »Each contributes the essential ingredient to the smooth functionning of the machine. Fred details ist progress : « We recorded in a home studio ; Sami composes the melodies, I deal with the lyrics, we meet and we record it. » Sami explains : « Fred gives me some indications about a text he writes, Either I beginn to find the title, or I´ve already made a tune and Fred searches for lyrics which would fit . » Delphine adds to that : « Ioften give my views right from the recording of the first track, sometimes even before, when Sami composes the piece on his guitar, the piano, and when Fred suggests a selection of texts. » It´s the feminine touch of the group, the pther essential viewpoint : « Specifically, Ireally go into action during the mix and then, I suggest some ideas, some atmospheres. I try to do my level best to fit together what Sam imagined and what Fred would like to hear. »Now, we have an album which looks like the original soundtrack of an imaginary film ; the painting, in musical notes, of all these little moments of the daily life. Fred as the scriptwriter, Sami as the director and Delphine as the edotor. Moreover it´s not coincidence that the trio is particularly fond of the Truffaut´s works. The song with ehich Fred is involved perfectly suits Sami´s delicate instrumentation. Ths spirit of the lyrics and their interpretation is reminiscent of a certain Serge Gainsbourg from the Melody Nelson period of history. « Gainsbourg had all understood, he borrowed from Chopin all his life and he produces hits ; I believe he was 30-50 years on ahead of his time, and therefore his talent obviously influences many musicians, including myself. All his writing is also a model, and I meet myself completely in this spirit » confesses Fred.He draws his inspiration from daily life (his wife in « Xy »), from his experience (his questions and doubts in « I don´t knox anymore ») ; he seems to be a brilliant storywriter : « I don´t want to be an author who gives lessons and gets involved in wars that have been lost beforehand ; I stay in the background as a painter remains behind his canvas ans I describe the world in which I live. » A mechanic of words, with the ink as the dirty oil ...Sami´s work is impressively complementary ; the music gives a depth to the echo of Fred´s singing : « I like to find a gimmick as a basis on the guitar, the bass or the piano, but it must remain very suggestive. All we want is to involve the listener in our dream. The rest is sensibility, emotion, serach for beauty, all in humility . » On the most tracks, the instruments settle down gradually, stimulating the imagination and the curiosity of the listener to him : ethereal atmospheres (« I don´t know anymore ») meet oriental choirs (« The human nature »), an air acoustic guitar (« The beautiful season ») or some always opportune samples.Even their use (in « Labyrinth », « the common person » ...) is an invitation to escape : « The few samples I use, I take them « on the air » ; I like sampling radio for eample. A « too polished » sample is devoided of interest, doesn´t call anything » emphasizes Sami.This Astrosensitive´s first album isn´t yet available in stores but the enthusiastic comments of curious Internet users can de read on their site (30000 listeners have already been counted). The trio belongs to this « generation mp3 » which regards the Internet as an essential means of communication. Delphine, who completely took charge of the construction of the site, has a clear vision of this medium : « I think taht those taht are tempted to experiment move with the times and have understood the power of this tool. Ist immediacy, ist internationaly and the variety of the possibilities ... The communication via the Internet is very important for Astro. We must carry on our promotion on the Net, it´s a major asset in a strategy of recognition. »At the moment, Astro is looking for a producer to record their compositions in the best way possible. Having listened to the tracks, we predict that their search will be short. With this first album, Astrosensitive prooves that French Hip Hop has great days ahead.
