Artist History
Formed in Chelmsford, Essex, from the ashes of two local bands in October 2002.
The band initially came together as a recording project and consisted of Veg and Lis Bakes which was the remnants of one band, John Tucker was recruited on Bass on a temporary measure but then became a permanent member when his band folded. Stevie James on Lead guitar and The Captain, on drums, were also recruited, Stevie having been a guest with both of the other bands at one time or another.
It became apparent after only a few rehearsals that the combination of the vocal talents of Veg and Lis with the addition of her incredible keyboard work, and the dual guitar work of Stevie and Veg with the solid and yet inventive rhythmn section provided by Andy (The Captain) and John that something much bigger than merely a sound for recording purposes was being created.
An oppurtunity for a live show was offered in November 2002. As with all things, Barefoot rose to the challenge and accepted the offer and so the gigging began in earnest.
In April the band played at The Celtic Warriors Birthday Bash in Huntingdon which was filmed for Men and Motors and this show was broadcast on the 18th July 2003.
A versatile group of musicians comfortably playing in either a full on rock environment or likewise in an intimate acoustic setting a live acoustic session was set up and played at Surge radio, Southampton's student radio station, which was broadcast both on MW in the local area as well as worldwide over the internet.
Throughout the last 10 months the recording continued until the album was finally completed and released on the 19th July 2003 at a self promoted launch party at The Soundhouse in Colchester.
The band are now trying to expand their fan base and are therefore trying to play in as many new towns and venues as possible, with gigs either played or lined up from the South Coast up as far as Manchester.
With the ability to play a range of styles within the sets, the band can comfortably play to an audience that want clever interesting songs to a hot and sweaty mosh that just want to bounce. This makes them difficult to catagorise but bloody interesting to listen to. |
