    Artist description
When most people hear the word "pop", they usually have one of two reactions. They cringe or they gag. Or they have 'secret reaction three' - they relish it. San Francisco-based adult alternative pop/rock band pla (pronounced "play") or "pop lovers anonymous" was formed to show the world that there's no need to be pretentious or elitist about music. It's okay to love pop music. Really. pla will be releasing their debut EP in June 2003. They have an exciting series of upcoming shows for the summer including charity and private events, as well as their usual club dates. Driven by pop hooks, vivid lyrical stories, and soaring melodies, pla quickly moves from mid-tempo alt rock to plaintive ballads to pop punk. pla collectively cites influences such as The Cure, Garbage, Jewel, Smashing Pumpkins, and U2; but individually they range from composer Jason Robert Brown to Yo La Tengo.

    Artist History
pla is a collaboration of vocalist/guitarist/songwriter Sally Chou, bassist/vocalist Grace Yang, guitarist/vocalist Jim Yang, and drummer Rich Yang. Brothers Jim and Rich met Sally on vacation in Hawaii in 1998. Unaware of each other's musical talents at the time, the band did not form until August of 2001, when Rich, Jim, and Sally were brought together by their shared love of popular music. After gigging out for a year as a cover band, they made the decision to move forward with their original music. Sally quickly recruited Grace (who is of no relation to Jim and Rich) to join them on bass. Sally and Grace grew up together in the bay area, where the music they made together was in marching bands, symphonies, choirs, and around Grace's piano. The foursome clicked and have been spreading the pop gospel ever since.
