Artist description
Douglas Lee has been writing music for the last decade. His influences sneak between the lines of Bob Dylan, Jeff Buckley, Van Morrison, The Beatles and Stevie Wonder. He has been up and down the Northeast, spending time in New York City, Philadelphia, and enough time in Boston to earn himself an undergraduate degree in English. His time in Boston proved to be extremely influential in his development as a songwriter, as it was a crucial point in his life, looking for a focus to devote his creative energy. He spent most of his time playing and writing songs, rather than reading books.
His lyrical content mainly revolves around the confusion and heartache of a man deep in revelatory thought. He has been compared to Bob Dylan and Cat Stevens, but he will let you know that those comparisons are extremely premature. He sings with an unhindered honesty and it seems every time he puts his lips to the mic, it’s a testimony to that particular instance in his life. There is a hint of rock, blues and jazz in his vocals, but he just refers to it as, “music”. In songs such as, “Strange” one can detect his strong appreciation for Jeff Buckley, as the chorus is rife with blues based, vocal falsettos.
He notes that his affection for the Blues has not yet reached it’s full potential and that he still has a lot to learn, musically from many, many, many, many, many, blues guitarist and vocalists.
He has been up and down the east coast, playing in different coffee shops and bars, finding inspiration in each city and venue along the way, as one can see the difference in his tone between the songs, “Bitter wind” and “Crimson Stains His Son”. He often admits that he is still just a work in progress and more music is still festering inside of him.
