Artist History
Since the release of the critically acclaimed album "Digital Primate" by Christopher Coe in March of 1995 his standing in the techno scene both in Australia and abroad has risen substantially. Featuring a diverse range of guest artists such Ollie Olsen (Third Eye, Psy-Harmonics), world reknowned artist Stelarc (the sounds of his internal organs were recorded for this project), and many others this album was an important landmark in Australia's dance and experimental music scene. The second release from Digital Primate entitled "Simple" recieved a huge response from the critics and public alike. His third release: "minimal Merle" a twelve inch vinyl e.p sold out within weeks of it's release. Digital Primate has recently signed to CSM in New York and Pro-Jex in the UK with releases coming from them in September and November respectively. His live performances, though few and far between, have caused a rave throughout the scene. His shows with Stelarc, Zbigniew Karkowski, Geoffrey Hales and Rainer Linz have excited the critics to the point of hyperbole "...Digital Primate is the future..." (Beat magazine in reference to the 1996 Big Day Out Digital Primate show). His live ISDN link-up and performance with Zbigniew Karkowski in Japan and Atau Tanaka in France was the first of it's kind in the world. As a DJ Digital Primate has played regularly at most of the major outdoor/rave parties in Australia such as Earthcore, Technofest, Omniglobe at Global Village, Vibe-Tribe parties in Sydney, On-U Sound tour and many others. As well as twice being invited to play at Tresor in Berlin (arguably Europe's most famous techno club) and Boom Boom Room in KL, Malaysia. He plays hard and does not let up for anything or anyone. He has promoted his own parties with high quality international acts such as Amon Tobin, DJ Vadim, The Herbaliser, Farley and Heller, Dj Krush, Norman Jay, Jose Padilla, Bentley Rythm Ace and others. Digital Primate also runs one of Melbourne's most underground and funky clubs with fellow collaborators Brian Westbrook and Hanna Alemayehu, the club Centriphugal has become synonymous with all that is deep and funky in dance music and has the whole town grooving. The success of this club is based on the music and quality of Djs invited to play as well as the no bullshit, comfortable atmosphere and the fact that the only advertising done for this club is by word of mouth. |
