Artist description
A timeless message, a restless heart, and a raging voice. Christan Raxter has an agenda for his generation. 22 years old and hailing from the small town of Rosman, North Carolina, this fresh face in contemporary music is destined to become a mainstay in the rapidly expanding singer/songwriter market. With a welcome blend of acoustic and pop piano, many will be quick to recall a young Elton John or a passionate Keith Green. Yet in a world of compromise and cookie-cutter production, his presence is refreshingly unique.
His humble beginnings as a musician have seen many doors open, such as in 1999 when he won 1st place in Original Music at the Great American Gospel Fest, or in 2000 when he was the only solo finalist in a southeast Battle of the Bands, or even this year where he is featured on the new syndicated television program Bomb Shelter on INSP. Coffeehouses, churches, prisons, and bars alike have seen firsthand the impact Christan has on the hearts of people. His songs carry a spiritual edge, and when matched by a chord on the piano, indicate that singing and writing are indeed his calling.
The response to his presentation speaks for itself. Audiences have ranged from the elderly to the young, all with nothing but praise. Tracing his musical influences to Ray Boltz, Michael Card, Larry Norman, and of course Keith Green, he places a high importance on both the lyrical and melodic content of his songs. This effort and purpose has led to the creation of works that mirror the human emotion. From gospel choruses 'Hallelujah' and 'I was Glad', to the Elton John-esque 'Take me to the Rock' and 'Monday', to the painfully honest 'Will they love me' and 'Emmanuel', and even the heart wrenching ballad 'Where We'll Never Grow Old', he is powerfully compelling.
Beyond description, his heart is truly one that must be heard. His is a mind without restriction, and a soul without barriers. His world is one in which humanity is embraced, and God is proclaimed. Difficult to box, his song is more than joy and greater than sorrow. He is simply a young man, striving to accomplish the task set before him. If you hear him, you will see an unquenchable and transparent spirit, and if you listen closely, you may even see yourself.
Perhaps the best words to express his life are found in a comment made by a woman who recently attended a show:
“Keith Green once stayed in my house. When Christan played, I felt my spirit rise just as it did when I heard Keith play. He has to go and share the gospel.” |
