Artist description
John Michel enjoys a professional career as an accomplished soloist, teacher, and chamber musician. He regularly gives solo recitals and has appeared as soloist with the Shenandoah Bach Festival, Reno Chamber Orchestra, the Wenatchee Symphony, the Yakima Symphony, Tacoma Youth Symphonies and others. He is co-director of the Icicle Creek Chamber Music Institute and has given numerous masterclasses for the Olympia, Icicle Creek and Tacoma Youth Symphony organizations, the Seattle Cello Society and the Interlochen Arts Camp. He holds degrees from University of Michigan and the New England Conservatory. |

Mr. Michel is the founder and director of the Internet Cello Society (cello.org), a cyber-community of cellists, that shares the knowledge and joy of cello playing with enthusiasts from around the globe. Currently the 5000 ICS members represent 77 different countries. |

Press Reviews
For the past nine years, Mr. Michel has served as professor at Central Washington University. His students have won numerous competitions, and have advanced to the national finals of the ASTA and MTNA competitions. This past year he received grants to produce a CD which includes his performance of the Dvorak Cello Concerto with the CWU Orchestra under the direction of Dr. Paul-Elliott Cobbs and to create a "String Pedagogy" website which will include videos of exercises and activities for beginning string instruction. Several years ago, the American String Teacher Association, Washington chapter, named him Outstanding College Teacher. |
