Artist History Ashbury Keys, a singer/songwriter from Houston, TX started writing songs when he was 14 years old. His love for the British pop rock scene along with his passion for songs with infectious melodies is what makes him tick musically. Growing up around the music of the Beatles, Wonder Stuff, The Smiths, and Morrissey has proven to be a strong foundation for Ashbury. Although his music today is all his own, his melodies still reflect his musical education. Ashbury has music in his blood. His grandfather has recorded on well over 100 country albums, in the early seventies his father played in regionally successful bands, and his older brother Darwin is currently signed to Arista Records with his band Pushmonkey. Ashbury’s first band, Space Monkey, was a quirky tongue-in-cheek outfit that he assembled from area musicians looking for a distraction from their current projects. The result of this effort was an album entitled Broke. It demonstrated Ashbury’s melodic sense and exposed him to the art of recording. With his creativity overflowing, Ashbury continued writing and found himself with a collection of songs that needed to be birthed. Once again, drawing on area musicians, Ashbury was able to complete an album the way that he had envisioned. An aggressive pop rock masterpiece was born. With the self-titled album complete, he was in need of a dedicated band to backup his vocals and guitar playing in the live arena. He recruited three of Houston’s best kept secrets, Alex Tittel-guitar, Bill Walter-bass, and Jason Morris-drums. This foursome is quickly becoming one of Houston’s most talked about bands. With menacing hooks, melodic sensibility, and a live show exploding with energy, it will not be long before Ashbury Keys takes the music scene to a new level.
