Artist description
Mr Barleycorn is a purpose-built machine; a juggernaut with the sole purpose of grabbing gothic music by its pale throat and hoisting it out of the mire of its tired predictability, self-depracating tradition and flawed musical ideals.
Drawing from influences as far-reaching as extreme metal through to acts like Radiohead and Sisters of Mercy, Mr Barleycorn's fresh and unique take on the gothic rock genre is one which easily transcends its roots in every respect, whilst still maintaining vast appeal for even the most staunch fan.
Dark, bleak and rich in depth and atmosphere, The Stendhal Syndrome is Mr Barleycorn's crowning achievement thus far. Already garnering high praise from fans and media alike, it is matched only by the Mr Barleycorn live experience; an event that has mesmerized South African audiences and will be coming to Europe and America very soon. |

Press Reviews
"Mixing equal parts of Depeche Mode, Type O Negative, Sisters of Mercy and Radiohead into their bleak alchemy, _The Stendhal Syndrome_ sees Mr Barleycorn successfully manage to stamp down their own identity on every track on the album, whilst at the same time cleverly avoiding most of, if not all, of the clichés that the genre is so loathed for." - www.chroniclesofchaos.com
"If you live through the experience of the album, ie: don't off yourself, then you're bound to love it. I know I do." - www.live4metal.com
