Artist History
Whicker got its start musically in 1997, when drummer Rob McConnell and Guitarist/Singer Jeff Browning started jamming on cover songs, almost by accident. When growing crowds of people started showing up to hear them play, they decided that something could perhaps stem from it. After two years of jamming, the pair added bassist Joe Chan, who subsequently left leaving room for current bassist Nick Slobodkin. Shortly thereafter, the band added guitarist Chris Abbott to complete the circle and add that extra bit of ass kicking energy to their tone. Now, after six years of writing, musical growth, and love of what they do, the band has grown musically into a serious force to be reckoned with. The band has also grown as an expressive outlet for all of the emotional control issues shared by not only its members - but its fans as well. Whicker packs a versatility and diversity into their shows and music that is rarely found and almost never expected. The band shows the power to, on one hand, walk the verge of being banned from playing a venue permanently for crowd control issues, and on the other, have the same crowd sitting on the floor swaying with lighters, within the span of an hour set. Recently completing a three song demo circulating entitled "The Reason Why" on Bewkenheimer Productions, Whicker is a band to watch out for. |
