Artist History Split Sofa's life was an idea set in Lewie D's mind as far back as 1996.Lewie teamed up with another songwriter in June 1996 (Paul cook)Each friday night they would sit in the small studio and write and record songs. The first batch of songs were recorded with acoustic guitars which gave over a very folk feel.The guy's still couldn't think of a name and in the end went fot 'Thyme'. - The Oracle was released and sold quite well and Thyme carried on into the next album 'The Vide'.With each album the band started to take a step forward and began to bring in a more heavy stlye.The song writing got more complex and the songs started to have clever twist's.1998 saw the realease of the last album 'Thyme'.During these sessions in Spectre studio the name 'SPLIT SOFA' was first mentioned.Paul in May of 1999 left Thyme and Lewie carried on writing. having decided to dump the Thyme name and start something new.He thought back to the name Split Sofa and took it.June saw the start of a mini album and Lewie asked his band mates to help out with the album. "ANGELISTIC PILLOW' was realeased in 2000.With much praise from people who said what different and fresh style the sound was.With this in mind Lewie started to work on the second album which took over 2 years to do. In this time the band were waiting for the new studio to be built.By Jan 2002 it was was done and Split Sofa started to work on the album 'BEFORE THE STORM'.It was recorded in 6 months.With 12 tracks of pure sofa rock.With Mick Strode (Guitar) leaving his mark on most of the songs. By the fall of 2002 Split sofa had recorded a handful of songs for the new album. In may of 2003 the band took a rest from recording and plan to start again later this year with a view for the new album to be out around June 2004
