Artist description
The Pickathon is a yearly roots music festival outside Portland, Oregon that is organized by local musicians and volunteers. All proceeds benefit KBOO community radio in Portland, which is the main radio media outlet that promotes most of these artists’s music.
The idea behind the Pickathon is to coherently involve musicians from a variety of genres (Bluegrass, Blues, Cajun, Country, Celtic, Folk, Roots Rock, Western Swing, Tex-Mex, Swing, etc..) that are truly contributing to the regional and national roots music scene.
Come join the Pickathon this year and find out why so many people are calling the Pickathon "A Roots Music Revolution".
The latest Pickathon info can always be obtained at www.pickathon.com. |

Press Reviews
The Oregonian A&E says the following about the most recent Pickathon CD - "Pickathon 2002":
“Just Like the occasion it documents, “2002 Pickathon” has a little bit of something for everyone. There are moments of jaw-dropping virtuosity (Sam Hill’s take on a Jimmy Rodgers composition “Blue Yodel #4,” which includes a lung shattering note held by singer Pat Kramer); passages of stunning emotional gravity (the twisted harmony vocals of Casey Neill and Little Sue on “Chinquapin”); good-time party tunes (Dirk Powell, Courtney Granger, and Friends’ traditional “The Waltz of the Grand Road,” which evokes the spirit of every Bourbon Street dive that ever served a drink in a plastic go-cup); and the sort of spirited eccentricity you might expect in such an eclectic setting (Danny Barnes’ “Delilah,” another in his catalog of Southern-fried tales from the beyond).
