Artist History
The American Mood
Chanz has played in garage bands thru out Jr. High & High School, learning guitar from Paula’s older brother at an early age. He wrote his first performed song at age fourteen & has been writing since. Growing up on everything from sappy top 40 to classic rock to Motown R&B to the Psychedelic. Chanz made a good living playing in several successful bands in Pennsylvania & Michigan, before deciding to play the songs he was creating his own way. Paula & Chanz discovered a few years back that Paula’s smooth voice complimented the style of music that Chanz was creating. “ It’s our spin on americana, we add that little twist of rock & pop, but not so much it takes away from the drink”.
Having played bass since high school Rich Zellers has enjoyed the opportunity to play in many styles of music. Although raised on rock'n'roll he has also ventured into blues, jazz and country and some interesting fusions of those styles. He has performed on stage, radio and TV here in the USA and in Europe and has had the opportunity to perform with Peter Criss (rock band KISS), Ernest "Boom Boom" Carter (Bruce Springsteen's band), Magic Slim (Chicago blues guitarist), Tex Logan (bluegrass fiddler formally with Bill Monroe) and George Young (jazz saxophonist with "Saturday Night Live" band).
After going thru an array of drummer/percussionists, the band members got the feel of what Doakey was all about. He played the right grooves to the right tunes. He had that square, thin look, but he was solid. Playing those grooves were in him since the day he was introduced to the world. His first and only gig has been with The American Mood .
