    Artist History
Have you ever heard the clap of a thunder or the roaring of a volcano spurting out lava? Have you ever heard the dreadful cutting sound of a hurricane? If the answer is “yes” then you may now have a thin idea of what S.P.I.T. really sounds like. For we are not talking about just another metal band. We are talking about an uncontrollable and powerful titan of nature. S.P.I.T. may be literally translated or stand for the portuguese acronym “Somos Partes Integrantes do Todo” (“we are parts of the whole”). Music wise, S.P.I.T. is nothing but aggressive, rebel and energy blasting. Being born in 2000 and playing together since then four times a week, the band has evolved in such a way that they have developed a unique style. The band’s body comprises four parts. Lee Soarez, 36, is the lung man. Influenced by the mid 80’s Californian thrash scene where he lived for quite a while, Lee has a powerful primitive voice and his stage performance is something that makes their gigs unforgetable. The axe man Junin “Sasquatch” Mendez, 25, grew up listening to bands such as Metallica, Sepultura, Ratos de Poro, Pantera, Slayer, Machine Head and Gorguts. His playing is massive and sharp, mixing techniques and feeling in a very balanced way. M. Malo, 25, is responsible for the bitter bass lines. One clearly observes technique and swing through the fury with which he strikes the strings. The drummer Stanley “Podrax”, 25, brings sour influence from Napalm Death, kataklysm, Sepultura, Ratos de Poro, and Gorguts. A buffalo herd blasting across the roof would be a good reference to what kind of outcome he gets from his sticks and pedals. S.P.I.T.‘s young carrier has been very successful. In its first year of life, the band released a three song demo (“Respect”, “Cold”, “Hell,no!”) that got them into the nation wide “Escalada do Rock” contest (more than 2.500 candidates) which would allow independet and unknown bands to play at the 2001 edition of the wordly known “Rock in Rio Festival”. In the same year they won the local contest for new bands, leaving more than 50 other bands in the dust. Seeing that through they went right into the studio and came out a month later with the collector’s item EP “Monsters Everywhere!”, fist disputed by the metal fans all over “Zona da Mata” (the states in Brazil are divided in “Zones”). Later on, another promo CD was out: “Mosh Music”. However, their first big brake came with the “Green Rock” Festival’s first edition, in Palma-MG, on the 31st. of august/2002. S.P.I.T. was the only independent band from Juiz de Fora to play on one of the two main stages as well as “Sepultura”, “Raimundos”, “Nao Zumbi” and others. More than 15 thousand people surrendered to S.P.I.T.’s modern, raw, intense and completely insane music. Juiz de Fora, 6 de setembro de 2002 Wendell Guiducci – journalist
