Artist History
When De la Soul sang 3 is the magic number
they couldn`t have been more prophetic.
Beau-T are 3 girls Tara, Becky and Kelly
- ready to charm you with their soaring
harmonic vocals and fascinate you with
their infectious, yet raw and aggressive sound.
Beau-T is the brainchild of Tara
(or T to her friends)
, who, fed-up with auditioning for bands
that didnt have a clue what direction they wanted
to go in, decided the only way to get what she
wanted was to form one herself.
I wanted to be part of something that was a
little bit different to everything else`
says Tara, `so I put an advert in The Stage
asking for female singer-songwriters with
balls and set about holding auditions myself
from my Dads front room in Essex!
It was there next to the sofa, and under
the giggly gaze of Tara`s sisters (who kept poking
their heads round the door), that 25-year-old
Becky and 22-year-old Kelly first made their
impression.
Tara says, From the minute they both walked in
the door they had such a presence about them.
I knew instantly. Plus they didn`t seem to care
that my whole family was watching!` It seemed
like fate`, says Kelly. Becky agrees, `When I got
to Taras house I`d decided this was going to be
my last audition. I was ready to give up after
this. I`d had enough of getting doors slammed in
my face.
It`s been 3 years since their first meeting,
and while there`s been no door slamming it
still hasn`t been an easy ride. After a false
start in the USA, when a production team
tried to turn them into a RnB group, Tara,
Becky and Kelly spent months writing songs
in Tara`s Essex flat and knocking on doors -
trying to filter the genuine interest from the
false promises. It wasn`t until they met their
mentor: producer, songwriter Guy Barnes that
Beau-t finally came to fruition.
Having worked with 100`s of singers, Guy
knew all about natural talent and he was
bowled over by their raw vocals and assertive
sound (he was also bowled over by Tara`s smile
because the pair have been a couple ever since!), and started co-writing songs with them and developing the girls style.
Guy sent their demo to Andros Georgiou who
immediately asked to hear the girls sing live.
On the day Andros came to see us Kelly totally
lost her voice! Tara cringes, `She couldn`t say
a word, let alone sing! But with their typical
resilience, the girls carried on regardless and
Kelly provided the attitude while Tara and Becky
delivered the performance of their life.
It worked. Andros was so impressed he started
managing them.
Beau-t`s music is full of attitude and fuses
cool harmonic vocals with an aggressive rock sound
. `Our songs are about fighting to get from the
low end of life upwards, says Tara They`re feel
good songs that tell ayone whoes got a problem
with us to go f**k themselves! Whatever we write
is feisty and opinionated`.
Beau-T are set on bringing raw rock back to the
mainstream like a mature Avril Lavigne with a
little Bon Jovi. Citing their influences as
Pink, The Stereophonics, to more older bands
like Bon Jovi, Aerosmith the girls promise to
deliver something catchy but with a harder,
raw edge, along with their band led by
Guy Barnes on Rythem Guitar, are veteren
players Peter Lynsky on Lead and Rythem Guitar,
Nigel Dobbs on Drums, Oded Avery On Keyboards
and Peter Parker(no not that one!!) on Bass Guitar.
However, unlike Avril Lavigne - Beau-t`s attitude
is in music only. With Becky`s contagious giggling
(and penchant for twiddling with her hair),
Tara`s passion for clothes and horses, and
Kelly`s coy demeanour (that is - until she`s had
a few glasses of wine).
Beau-t`and their band are about to kick off this
summer by playing in and around London, so catch
them at a place near you very soon.
