    Artist description
Dave Tomkins and Gary Simonian have been writing and recording a full length CD for the last year. As they are nearly finished working on it, they are interested in forming a band -- The Spinning Plates -- to perform these songs and promote the work they've done. The idea is to use these songs to get the project off and running. They'd like to do some worth-while, industry related shows in the coming months to 1) see how far we can take these songs, and 2) see how good of a band we can really put together. Dave and Gary want to encourage all the participants to dig into the songs and make them thier own, but, by the same token, they'd rather not stray too far from what they've recorded, as they have worked very hard to get the songs in the best shape possible. But that's not to say they wouldn't be intersted in including material from other bandmembers in the live set. It really all depends on how well the band gets on together and if things continue to look promising. The Spinning Plates' sound is a kind of 70s/90s hybrid with a progressive flair. Dave's voice has been compared to that of Steve Hogarth of Marillion, Jeff Buckley, and the guy from Toad the Wet Sprocket. Many listeners find that the music of The Spinning Plates bears a resemblance to that of Porcupine Tree. Although Gary and Dave played all the instruments on their studio project, they've been recruiting other musicians to make it happen live. But they haven't made any final decisions yet. So, if your influences match up with thier and you have an interest in joining up, send Dave an e-mail or give him a call – (818) 800-4160 – letting him know when you'd like to come out to thier studio in Glendale to have a listen to the rest of thier CD.
