Artist description
FILM AT ELEVEN is a project from three veterans of the Midwestern music scene. An eclectic hybrid of power-pop accessibility and minimalist, occasionally melancholy tone, FILM AT ELEVEN melds Bends-era Radiohead and Pinkerton-era Weezer with the likes of Wilco, Beck, R.E.M., Elvis Costello, and Violent Femmes, among others.
FILM AT ELEVEN is made up of guitarist/singer/songwriter P.J. O'Connor (Destination: Earth!, Hipster Zero), bassist Kathryn O'Connor (In Stitches, The Hand-Me-Downs), and percussionist Sam Pittman (Charm Offensive, Red Badge Moment). It is also the first project from husband and wife team Patrick & Kathryn since the duo operated their Midwest-based music venues of the late 1990's and early 2000's, the Volcano Room and the Music Box Cafe.
Current setlist originals provide a variety of song stylings under a unified umbrella of sound, with standouts such as the upbeat pop-rock of "Angelica Jinx," the building intensity of "Prom Night Disaster," and the pensive atmospherics of "Wishing Well." The band also gives an occasional nod to their influences, with covers of bands like the Pixies, Morphine, and even They Might Be Giants. The guitar/bass/drums lineup is sonically enhanced by the fact that each member of the band is a multi-instrumentalist, with Kathryn providing occasional clarinet and drums, Patrick taking up bass, and Sam playing glockenspiel and saxophone.

Press Reviews
All the post-modern twists and thrills you’d expect from a band of gifted art school dropouts.
- Nuvo Newsweekly
One of the slipperiest, most fascinating and, by any sane reckoning, best debuts of the year.
- The New York Times
...triumphs with skill and passion.
- The Los Angeles Times
Funny, pungent, and weirdly gripping!
- Entertainment Weekly
... a beautiful, snappy piece of work...
- The San Francisco Chronicle
If it can be classified at all, I'd call it fantastic - in every sense of that word.
- Premier
… a convincing depiction of the mad rush of new love, with an emphasis on the madness.
- The Onion
… quirky and stylish, but not in a manner that comes across as overly artsy or pretentious.
- Reelviews
An uninterrupted flow of incident and spectacle.
- Variety
