Artist description
Draghead is a diverse group of musicians who bring their experiences, talents, and influences together to form a sound that fluctuates between powerful and rhythmic to subtle and haunting.
Draghead came together in the spring of 2001. Initially, jonathan and Kev were getting together at a local rehearsal studio a couple time a week to jam on some riffs that jonathan had bouncing around in his head. At first, this time was used as a creative outlet and an excuse to imbibe, however, things became more serious as some interesting, strong material reared its head. The next year experienced several lineup changes and the band was at a loss to find a capable bass player that fit into their tight unit. Their sound had become quite dense in an effort to make up for the lack of a bass player. Finally the band discovered Rain (or perhaps it was the other way around) and she quickly showed her abilities and "thick skin". Draghead also solidified a permanent guitarist in Kurt Keating.
The goal has remained the same; to create edgier, harder, yet melodic music in a local scene dominated by an "indy" sound (aka., pretentious hipster fucks who can't sing) and airwaves that are dominated by bands turning heavy music into fodder for children; soundtracks for acne medication commercials. The band uncompromisingly makes music that it feels and does not conform to its surroundings.
The initial material was molded through repetition. The band recorded an initial 5 song demo at Electrokitty studios in Seattle. The finished project was titled Magnolia.
Draghead looks to re-enter the studio this fall with material that is undeniably heavier, yet retains the rhythmic, melodic, haunting, and subtle vibes synonymous with magnolia.

Press Reviews
We received the new draghead cd... I immediately called jonathan Bare, vocals and guitar, and told him we would be featuring the entire cd on our new artist program that night, and requesting an interview. We didn't wait. I then went directly on air with tracks #1 and #5 and asked the listeners to review and comment. They have been requesting the tunes ever since!
It's a shame in an area like the northwest, that portrays itself as the cutting edge of the music scene, that the local radio stations don't see the diamonds laying at their feet.
