Artist History
voice of a secret has existed since time began. Since 1992, guitarist /songwriter Paul and vocalist/songwriter Logan have been a musical entity of sorts, but it wasn't until '97 that they decided to organize and move forward as a unit. Unfortunately, it was a unit without a rhythm section until they found drummer Danny, who would turn out to be the perfect third. Meshing together their various backgrounds in emo, metal and post hardcore, they’ve finally arrived at the melodic, heavy, quietly aggressive sound that they’ve each sought for the past ten years. They're a five piece trapped in the bodies of three, but that's just the way they like it.
In the beginning there was Shelf Life, and it was good. But though Paul and Logan were both seminal members, Paul left before the band truly began and was absent from the original lineup. Logan and Max (now frontman of The Actual, another of Shelf Life’s offspring) were the heart of Shelf Life until Logan left the band in ’96. Paul rejoined the band in ’97 and was a member until its demise in ‘99. In fact, all of the members of v.s. were involved with Shelf Life at some point, as the multitalented Danny was introduced to Paul when he auditioned for the band first as a guitarist and then as a drummer in ‘98.
Shelf Life begat the short-lived Fire, which begat the greatest band ever (which, sadly, died before it was named), which begat Viscera. It was during Viscera’s existence that the unification of Paul, Danny and Logan as the trio that they would become occurred, and though Viscera was torn apart on the eve of 2001, the seeds had been sown.
Since then, Ellipsis, Hero, and Ender all gave their lives so that voice of a secret could live. For the past year, v.s. has been writing, rehearsing and planning. Now they're ready to begin a regional tour in support of their first release, due out in early september. Their most recent demo (recorded at 1250tech in Brooklyn), most notably "part II: away," will give you a taste of what this powerful trio has in store for its listeners.
Quiet. Listen carefully and you’ll hear the voice.
