Artist History
The History: The Awkward Romance actually began in late 2001as a band called Sunder. As Sunder, they toured all over the southeast, (over one hundred shows in less than 2 years), released 3 CDs, and were offered multiple record contracts. They were forced to rename in 2003 when another band trademarked the name before they did. Instead of looking upon this situation as a setback, they took advantage of the opportunity to choose a name that interpreted their band in more ways than one.
The Music: The Awkward Romance have married seemingly conflicting influences from several genres and personal tastes to create a style of music all their own. The best description of their music is the self-monikered “Fast Pop Emo”. Pooling elements from emo, pop-punk, rock, and even a little hardcore. The intense musical landscape they fashion is the perfect backdrop to their impassioned melodies and lyrics. Each member of the Awkward Romance has written and will continue to write songs and lyrics, and because there is no single songwriter in the band, they all put their personal stamp and unique passion into the songs. This system creates a more passionate and believable conveyance of the songs, because the members are not just "performing" the lead singer's songs.
The Live Show: The Awkward Romance have honed their awe-inspiring live show through relentless touring and practice. The passion, energy, and stage presence combine for an almost magnetic connection with any crowd.
The Band: The Awkward Romance have always been friends first and a band second. That philosophy has unified the band and permeated throughout all of their relationships, including their relationships with fans. The Awkward Romance would rather make a friend than a fan. The bottom line for the band is relationships, and that is the only thing that comes before the music.
The Christianity: The Awkward Romance is a metaphor for the band's personal relationship with God. Their walk with Him is awkward because as much as they may try, they are still just finite, clumsy humans, and He is an infinite, perfect God. These beliefs, however, are personal, and they would never force their religion nor personal views on anyone.
The Future: The Awkward Romance will continue to tour and create music that they feel passionate about. The band will continue to thrive on personal relationships and divine inspiration. Thank you for you support.
