Artist History
From a small recording studio, situated on a large farm on the south
side of Indianapolis, Ryan Koch combines his unique fusion of jazz, pop, and
progressive rock with his own original approach to composition to appeal to
a broad range of listeners.
As a self-taught musician, Ryan has developed his skills on the guitar,
drums, keyboard, and bass in addition to those as a vocalist. He began his
career in music as drummer, backing vocalist, and co-composer with
Indianapolis' funk/rock/jazz trio, The Hundredth Monkey. From 1997 to 2001,
Ryan appeared with The Hundredth Monkey as well as their sister band,
Monkton, at local Indianapolis venues Radio Radio, The Patio, Melody Inn,
Monkey's Tale, Moe & Johnny's, The Fountain Room, Birdy's, Rock Bottom
Brewery, and Greenwood's Half-Price Books, as well as New York City's
Mercury Lounge.
As a solo artist, Ryan has recently had the opportunity to collaborate
with local Indy musicians such as award-winning jazz-clarinetist Frank
Glover, as well as NUVO's "Jazz Happenings" column's highly acclaimed new
vocalist Josh Kauffman.
Ryan's song, Secret Feelings, was featured on the City of Music Radio
Hour on 92.3 WTTS in March of 2002 as recorded by Monkton.
With his innovative sound and Indiana roots, Ryan has entertained
audiences locally and nationally in clubs, restaurants, dedicated music
venues, poetry events, and art exhibitions. He has done so as a drummer,
guitarist, and singer; both as band member and band leader; filling a
variety of musical roles. He continues to seek and explore all available
creative opportunities, taking eager listeners with him all along the way.
