    Artist History
Inhumane formed in September 1996, originally with the intention of playing a one off gig as part of the line-up for Cliff Burton’s tenth anniversary. However, after several practice sessions playing covers, one of which is still in the current live set (am I evil) the band began writing original material. After playing their first live date supporting “shot at birth” and “deadlock” in Slattery’s (Capel st. Dublin) they were approached to submit two original tracks on a compilation cd (“ the first Irish heavy metal compilation”), these two tracks (the devil and I and all alone) were recorded in trackmix recording studio (Clonsilla,Dublin) and released in 1997. After gigging extensively and having undergone nearly a complete line-up change the band entered cosmic recording studio (Dublin) to record “speak” which appeared on the double compilation cd In Unison. The writing process had slowed down at this stage after yet more line-up changes, but after dropping several songs and taking a new song writing direction the band went into cosmic recording studio to begin recording a six track ep. Having played several live dates with just one guitarist it was clear that a second guitarist was needed, after the arrival of Aaron Murphy (Kingdom) the line-up was complete and the recording process could continue which resulted in the “Fetish for Flesh” ep.

Inhumane, now there's a name that hasnt popped up locally for some time. The band have actually recorded before, but only individual tracks for compilations (as can be found on "In Unison" and the older "First Irish Heavy Metal Compilation"), so this is their first foray into a single unit cd. Having been around since '96 this band surely know the game by now, and as such the cd is properly pressed, perfectly printed and also importantly comes with a concise and well laid out bio which should impress whichever label bod gets his hands on it. Having listened back to their earlier tracks it seems that the band have tidied up their attack somewhat after their various messy lineup changes (the current one includes Aaron who you will remember from Kingdom): the low brow DM of the earlier recordings now having been slickened slightly. The six tracks here however still represent some neanderthal style knuckle dragging Death, reminding at times of early Dismember and a slightly looser Primal Dawn, and despite some hiccups its all delivered well enough and with a decent production that does the fat and chunky riffs justice. If Im not mistaken theres a large classic rock/metal element underpinning the extremity in here also, and if I am not furtherly incorrect I can actually hear some of the ex-Kingdom guitarist's trad stylings from the elongated solos. These guys arent reinventing the wheel by any stretch of the imagination, but they play their metal well and with conviction. When trundling around in the midpaced sections you could be listening to any amount of bands, but when they speed up they are more aggressive than most courtesy of the gutter crawling vocals and pounding kick drums (see "Feast of the Dead"). In essence it provides precisely the no brainer Death Metal hit we all need from time to time with few pretensions to anything else, and does it well. Maybe a little more adventure will come as the lineup solidifies and finds its true voice, but for now its highly repsectable in its field. 3.7 / 5 www.metalireland.com (June 2003)
