Artist History Imperial Empire is the brainchild of Lee Wollenschlaeger - a project birthed from passion, dedication and determination; one that embraces the past and forges ahead into the future. The Imperial seed was first planted, while Lee was living in the United Kingdom, and served as the bassist/vocalist for Throne Of Nails (another up and coming group in the realm of death metal). It was during this time that his love for bands like Immolation, Suffocation and Morbid Angel distilled alongside his own creativity, a sound which was too aggressive for his current outfit, and at the same time more focused and darkly melodic. Unable to recruit suitable members, he returned to South Africa in mid-2000, and began actively writing what would eventually become Imperial Empire's first work. In 2001, he recruited three members (who would later leave due to personal commitments) and embarked on several hugely successful performances with the help of a drum machine - utilised due to a lack of suitable drummers in the area. In 2002 a full-length demo was recorded, entitled "Cries From A Dying Race". The CD was incredibly well received by press and an ever-growing fan base alike and shows were sold out with minimal radio and media exposure. 2003 sees Imperial alive once again as the sole vision of its creator. Another full-length recording, The Second Coming, sees the unique amalgamation of violent, chaotic death metal, and classically influenced melodicism taken yet another step further. While live performances continue with the aid of session musicians, the search continues for suitable members to complete the unit. Imperial Empire is also currently accepting offers for distribution and/or recording contracts from record labels, and has already had interest expressed in it, by several respected labels in the metal scene.
