Artist History
Gary played violin in his early teens.
Upset that he was forced to practice 30 minutes
a day, he quit and began to play the guitar for
four or more hours a day. For a few years, he
refused to sleep unless he had done his four
hours on guitar. He began playing in midwestern
rock & pop bands at age 18 or so, and played
for twenty years in a variety of rock, blues,
jazz fusion, oldies and other types of bands,
up to 130 nights per year. He began writing & playing
music for theatrical shows in the mid-nineties,
where he enjoyed learning new styles. He also
enjoyed getting home before midnight, and
not smelling like cheap beer. He began doing
home recordings in 1983 on a JVC double-track
recorder out of which he'd squeeze six tracks,
then moved up to a four-track Fostex in the
early 90s, and currently records and burns
master CDs on a Boss 1180-CD 10-track digital
recorder.
Under the name of The Occupants (which,
for all practical purposes, is the same thing
as Gary Hall with the occasional guest artist),
he writes original songs in various styles, plays
all instruments, and mixes the songs to CD & mp3. |
