    Artist History
Jamie Everheart & Chris Duncan had met in high school. In '94, they decided to pursue their collective dream of starting a band. Chris strummed out a few songs on guitar, and Jamie backed him up. Jamie had been a playing piano since he was 12, but wanted to try his hand at bass. All they needed now was a drummer. As luck would have it, a local band practiced in a garage/shed behind one of the houses in their neighborhood. Upon hearing the drummer, Aaron Kinne, they knew that they had to get him in the band. Fortune smiled on the two, as the landlord evicted that band for drugs and having parties in the band room. Jamie & Chris had a chat with the landlord, and persuaded him not to evict Aaron along with the rest of the band. (Since drummers have a bunch of equipment to haul around) Aaron was most appreciative, and happily joined the duo. The new group dubbed themselves 'the second sky,' and started playing small gigs and parties around the area. Not too much later, a five-song demo was cut called 'Temperance.' It was released in 1995. The next year, the band decided to move up in the world and cut an E.P. The trio booked time with John Plymale. (Formerly of Sex Police, John was now a big-time NC studio producer - who worked with acts like Squirrel Nut Zippers, Superchunk, Gran Torino, The Meat Puppets & Athenaeum.) The five song Cd, 'Stabbing Knives of Rhythm & Song,' was released in '96 & got them their first exposure to college radio. Everything was looking up for the second sky, and that is always when disaster strikes. Late one night, Aaron was involved in a car accident on the highway. The car was totaled, and it seemed his shoulder was too. The band decided to go on sabbatical for a while, until things lightened up. Aaron was recovering, but he wouldn't be able to play drums again for a while (if ever). Jamie dusted off his old keyboard and began fiddling with it. With a synth drum, they would be able to do a little practicing and possibly write some more songs. There was one little problem, though - Jamie couldn't play bass & keyboards at the same time. Months passed, and eventually Aaron said he'd like to start the band back up again soon. Everyone was pretty excited about this, except for Jamie, who had become re-attached to his keyboard. The band started up again, but they needed a new bass player. Two weeks later Austin Lynch was leaving a coffee shop near the local university, when he noticed a 'Bass Player Wanted' ad. His folk band, 'Druid's Kitchen' has recently broken up, and he was anxious to get back in the scene. The following Tuesday, Austin became the fourth member of the band, after auditioning with '24hrs,' by Joy Division. The tunes that had been written during the band's hiatus were recorded & released the following spring ('98). Their first full -length album 'Don't turn around,' was named after Falco, who had passed away while the band was still in the studio. The new album, and the new member gave the band a second wind. After another year on the bar circuit, they had enough material to begin work on 'Karma Points.' The band finished the album and pre-released a special 'internet-only' version on of the album at Thanksgiving '99. The official & final release of the album was delayed, as the first run was mis-printed on the CD. They were shipped back, and as a result, Karma Point's wasn't released until mid- June 2000. By this time, the guys had taken a week off and recorded another album to kill the time. The new eponymous CD was recorded with their old pal John Plymale @ Overdub Lane in Durham, NC. The release should happen this fall. Stay tuned; it's going to be another exciting year for us.

    Press Reviews
“Jaunty college rock."Jim Testa, Jersey Beat & Rolling Stone publications.................. "The 2nd Sky is like a crazy roller coaster ride: the highs are the catchy pop riffs on 'Little Man' and the curves are the more serious tones of songs like 'Londonberry'. The music is a real thrill! Fortunately, there is no woozy feeling after."Becky Browning, WQFS and WXDU DJ
