******************************************************************************************************************Rick Renstrom: "Future Intense"******************************************************************************************************************Former Wicked Ways axe wielder Rick Renstrom is back and better sounding than ever with his new solo release "Future Intense" -- seven tracks of "Knock 'Em Dead-Neoclassical-Napalm" that smokes like a friggin' oil field on FIRE!! If you are into Neo-C, you should like this record a lot. We're talking "European" all the way and it's jam packed with all the stuff that shred heads crave. Uplifting and inspiring, powerful and genuinely "classical" through and through. Straight to the chase (attention grabbing) "Old World" structures and practical (catchy) scaled up minor note melodies (complete with ah yes ... harmonizing guitars!) laced throughout with fret burning fireballs of virtuosic "violin-from hell-like-Renstrom-show-of-force" that rings strongly of classic "Malmsteen -shred-up-your-ass" with some cool surprises in between!! All seven tracks on "Future Intense" are killer and the CD should prove to be a shiny diamond for any Neo-C fan out there in search of the real stuff. Rick Renstrom has outdone himself on this album and the production quality of the recording itself is pretty impressive also, making it all the better. We highly recommend it."Future Intense" by Rick Renstrom is very cool.Review by The Campbell Bros.(Hardradio.com)-------------------------------------------RICK RENSTROM - Future Intense USARating: * * * ˝ 1999 PRIVATE Time: 37:46Musician:Rick Renstrom: All Electric, Acoustic and Bass Guitars, Keyboard and Drum Programming.Tracklist:1. Destiny's Call (6:15)Rick Renstrom, once guitarist in Wicked Ways has released his first solo album.Rick is what you could call a neo-classical guitar hero with influences from other guitar heroes such as Yngwie J. Malmsteen, Andy LaRocque, Ritchie Blackmore, Uli Jon Roth, Jimi Hendrix and Al DiMeola. The classical influences are Bach, Beethoven and Mozart. He's playing with a great self-confident similar to Yngwie Malmsteen, and his all-instrumental compositions are also very reminiscent to Yngwie's with good melodies. Rick is working on a full-length solo album complete with choir and symphony orchestra. Maybe it will be something in the same vein as Yngwie Malmsteen's "Concerto for Electric Guitar".If you're into Yngwie Malmsteen's all-instrumental songs, this album will certainly attract to you. Recommended!-Reviewed by Greger Rönnqvist-Through Different Eyes(Sweden)*****New Review 4/22/00******THE FIRE WITHIN EP/FUTURE INTENSE-RICK RENSTROM (INDEPENDENT)Out of Florida comes multi-instrumentalist Rick Renstrom. He sent me two albums he recorded the past few years. The new one is an EP titled 'The fire within EP', which featured 3 songs. This EP saw Rick playing as guitarist along with a drummer and bassist. But on his first CD 'Future intense' he took over that part and so did everything on his own. Musically Rick is playing instrumental Melodic Heavy Rock with a lot of Classical themes. Yes, there's only one guitarist who influenced Rick and his name is YNGWIE MALMSTEEN. Rick has listened very well to Yngwie and you can clearly hear that in songs like "Forgive and forget" and "On top of the world". A total of 10 songs I heard from Rick and they all sounded very well. Rick sure knows how to play all the instruments and these records can't be missed by anyone who likes YNGWIE MALMSTEEN. (Points: 7.5 out of 10)From Strutter Magazine by Gabor Kleinbloesem |
