Artist History
Letterbox Lambs are a four piece Wellington power pop band, who since 1995 have fostered and furthered their own distinct sound, founded on a healthy base of influences ranging from favourite Flying Nun bands young and old to the best in international indie bands. Press Reviews
“World weariness left the tired bones when Letterbox Lambs rang out their youthful pearls of wisdom. They took the tired, the sick, the old, and with shiny pop, gave hope to the new order. There have been some who have been raving about this band since they first listened to them. The ravers were justified... Their songs should all be Top 10 hits. They should be played on all music channels, all members should be profiled in teen magazines, and they should all have young women’s underwear thrown at them”.[Rip It Up magazine] “The appeal of Letterbox Lambs is immediate. They’re a band which realises that one of the key fundamentals of pop music is that it be fun. They’re a hell of a lot of fun to watch, they’ve any number of catchy hooks and “I’ve been there before” lyrics to sing along to, and have more than just surface appeal”. [The Evening Post newspaper] “Letterbox Lambs’ “Box Of Fluffies” is a preciously light-hearted amble through guitar pop’s best corridors, the same ones the likes of 3Ds and Pavement - some of the coolest kids in the school - hang out in. Drawing from all the classics yet somehow simplifying them, the sound the Lambs create is a most wholesome and down-to-earth one, with plaintive lyrics and wiggly guitars fighting for the foreground”.[Salient magazine] “Bright, infectious pop songs played with a wicked, devil may care spirit. Pleasing to see a local band writing songs you’d actually sing along to”.[Evening Post newspaper] “The Letterbox Lambs create pop songs that seem, at times, so effortless, they are as natural as breathing air or drinking beer”.[Rip It Up magazine] “To put it bluntly, the Lambs were the band of the evening, noticeably blowing Garageland off the stage in getting the kids to bounce around and sing along... Letterbox Lambs, though coming on first to a less than full venue, triumphed. Their songs are great. They’re developing a stage presence and a live set which shows a requisite level of professionalism that will serve them well. They don’t bullshit around, not for them the pretentiousness that can ruin some Wellington bands. And the kids love them... Keep an eye out for Letterbox Lambs, they could, and should, be big”.[NZ-Pop listserv] “The Lambs’ rise to major local status has been solid and spectacular... Letterbox Lambs deserve to be household names by now”.[Capital Times magazine] “Letterbox Lambs ended a mini-hibernation with two gigs in as many weeks, looking stronger than ever. Wellington’s next national band?”.[Rip It Up magazine] |
