Artist History
The Gasoline Cowboys were raised in different ways.Midnight Matt, in an old shanty town in the west coast, the country way ... but the day came when he was overcome by the attractions of the big city lifestyle, and he rode his trusty mule over the Arthurs Pass to Canterbury. Gasoline Glen, was raised in the traditional oriental way in Hong Kong ... with size 6 shoes and a severe foot odour problem, he opted for first class airline travel to bring him to Christchurch, New Zealand. Rodeo Theo, as a Greek, was brought up on Olives and Pita bread ... he departed from the band early on and enlisted in the army. Lasso Linton, good finelager loving drummer, notorious for getting extremely drunk at gigs, losing control over his legs early on, crawling around on the floor with the mike freestyle M.C-ing (everybody fucken party) over an acid techno line on the groovebox ... disappeared himself from the band when the founders decided to go pop rock. (all the drumming is now done by Midnight Matt) |

Press Reviews
GASOLINE COWBOYS Get Out of Town (Independent) *** (Rated 3 stars out of a maximum of five) The Gasoline Cowboys were a band apart ... so far apart they never played, never built a following, let alone a reputation. They were never cool and I guess they never wanted to be.Get Out of Town, on the Pavement side of pop, could have been huge, but wasn't. The songs are hit and miss, mostly hit, but the missing is just as much fun. It is a fine, fulfilling document of a band destined for the middle of the pack. In a world of losers, this is a heroic and mighty achievement. --Adam McGrath, Christchurch Press, Friday 30 April, 1999, p.g.23 |
