Artist History
Funnybone is a rock instrumental power group made up of three members, Jimmy Teach(guitar), Bobby Townsend(drums), Phil Yanez(bass). They have been playing together for ten years, & formed Funnybone five years ago after changing their style from vocal to instrumental music. They have been perfoming live at various clubs and festivals, released an album, and completed a small film score on a short animation film titled , "Lorenzo's Lab", by William Flugrath. Recently their song "Vacay" was used on ("Brewing With Herb") an infomercial instructional video for a home made beverage company. JT The Brick, a prominent SF Bay Area sports talk show host is currently using Funnybone's music during his show. Funnybone is working on their second album and seeking a record deal. They are also looking forward to playing more shows, working on film projects, and moving ahead in the music industry. |

Press Reviews
FunnyBone - "House of Sunshine" It seems that 90% of the music posted on mp3.com comes from California....here is some more. Easy on the ear instrumental guitar-spotlighted rock with an excellent bass and drum supporting cast. Guitarist is from the Joe Satriani school, if there is such a thing. What I mean to say is that he plays melodies, actual, real, beautiful melodies embedded into and weaved throughout the solos. It's not really like anything I've heard before, and believe you me, I have just about heard it all. Here's a comparison that might work, although it will sound implausible to FB...Dave Davies of the Kinks (ya know..."Lola" "You Really Got Me"). He's always been one of my favorite guitar players because his solos were thoughtful melodies unto themselves, not self-indulgent al dimeola or john sebastion "i can play faster than you" guitar carnivals. Glenn Tillbrook from squeeze is another guitarist who, like zappa, carefully thought before (or maybe while) he was playing. I'm not going to pretend to know how these guitar genuises mind's work, having hands of stone myself... ...and finally, this splendid piece evokes images of a house of sunshine. art works sometimes when the artist is conciously giving himself up to the whole, the greater being, the universe....jimmy, phil and bobby...gorgeous and good luck....you almost made my headache go away, and that's about the highest compliment I can bestow on someone (unless of course, they cure me of my headaches altogether). -kvh ************************************************** Unlike lots of folks who set aside stacks of Guitar World or Modern Drummer for bathroom reading, these guys don't view songs as mere solo vehicles. Accomplished trio instrumentals with plenty of bashing beats and squealing guitars. -listen.com |
