    Artist description
THE ASASSINI Little does best-selling author Thomas Gifford know that he inspired up-and-coming Canadian hip hop emcee CLAS ASASSINI and his crew. Although the first half of his alias followed him as he grew up, CLAS ASASSINI recalls where the second part originated. “I read a Gifford book a couple of years ago called The Assassini that was a story about a brotherhood of killers operating within the Catholic Church. I liked the name and realized that the three other people I roll with share a mindstate and form a brotherhood. So we’re known as the Asassini clique, we’re lyrical killers.”CLAS ASASSINI’s love for hip hop began in the 1980’s after his cousin exposed him to “Roxanne, Roxanne” and various other classic rap records. “I didn’t really know the artists or the songs,” he says, “but I just liked the feel of it. I used to go to New York City a lot and loved the whole hip hop atmosphere. It was a new vibe, but the music was always in me.” CLAS soon immersed himself deeper into the music and culture and became influenced by politically conscious acts such as KRS-ONE, Brand Nubian, Nas and Gangstarr. As a keen observer, CLAS ASASSINI began to draw inspiration for his songs from everyday situations around him. He recently attended the University of Hartford in Connecticut on a full soccer scholarship, which helped further broaden his worldviews. “I talk about things that I see, but I try to drop little mind jewels in-between,” he explains. “I think you have to listen repeatedly to my lyrics to pick everything up.”Poised to burst onto the hip hop scene, CLAS enlisted fellow Canadian producer Agile to create beats that would aptly compliment his thought-provoking rhymes. “I like beats that you can bump in your truck, uptempo stuff. I like to give people that feeling, the rush you get when you hear hype beats with street material,” proclaims the emcee.CLAS ASASSINI’s first single is the attention-grabbing “Visionz”, which features clique member May 19th. The two trade verses and let their raw skills shine over a melodious, head-nodding track. “It’s a little club-banger,” CLAS says. “Lyrically, we’re talking about where we see ourselves. The chorus really says it all: ‘We got Visionz.’”The role CLAS ASASSINI eventually sees himself occupying is also crystal clear. “There’s a lot of good Canadian hip hop artists, but I think the scene’s been slow coming up,” he reveals. “I haven’t seen anyone really emerge in terms of being a big star, and I think that’s something the Asassini clique tends to accomplish. We want to set our mark.” CLAS ASASSINI: an emcee that is truly in a class of his own.purchase at www.urbananthem.com and www.sandboxautomatic.com
