Artist History
The first thing Jason Garcia wants you to hear is a melody. "The Beatles could really perk up your ears with a good melody," he says.
"And then they backed it up with good lyrics."
Always looking for new ways to express the most basic human emotions has taken the Austin, TX based songwriter through a good 10 years of experimentation via hundreds of home 4-track recordings. In 1999, Garcia finally decided it was time to make a real record and so enlisted the help of Cardigans producer Lars Goransson for his debut, The Trouble With Being Nice.
"For that record I was basically a kid in a candy store," Jason says. "There was just so much musical stuff available and we really filled out the sound with it. And the guitars are loud! It's just a big pop record."
"Trouble" was released in 2000 to universal critical acclaim in many countries including England, Sweden, Serbia, Italy, and Belgium and hit #67 in the CMJ Top 200 in early 2002. The band continues to build a large fan base in Texas with its latest release, the "Hold On Tight!" EP. Household Names plans to hit the road in fall of 2003 for a midwest and east coast college tour. Jason plans to perform solo electric shows "pretty much wherever they'll let me," he says. A new band is expected in fall.
