Artist description
Have you ever fallen deeply in love, or fallen
cruelly out of it? It's a necessary process for
each of us to undergo as we develop into
complex humans. The peak point of the heart's
ascent (and in most cases, the inevitable
descent) is a temporal and fleeting state that
leaves one drained and speechless, often
feeling for days on end ... but it's an
incomparable, indescribable experience. Yet
certain stimuli can trigger that same reaction
for a brief, golden moment. According to
thousands of listeners around the world, the
young siren known as Anneke van
Giersbergen apparently has just that
capability. There lies something intrinsic
within her vocal caress that is able to stir up the feelings repressed within each of
us, unattainable otherwise - it provides convalescent relief for the jilted lover; it
tempts the corporate executive to cast aside the material pursuits in favor of a
simpler life; it brings the hardened criminal to tears. |

Artist History
Alone, however, a voice is often lost within the din - it requires a carefully
textured map to find its pressure points an elicit the deepest sensory response -
and that is where the five gifted musicians who carry her gift come into play. After
five years of continual improvements with different vocalists on their first two
recorded works, in late 1994 the group found the piece of the puzzle that had
eluded them for so long in the form of Anneke, then a 21-year-old songstress who
had also been searching for the right musical complement to match her rich
delivery. The union was kismet from the beginning, and from there things
developed so quickly the Dutch sextet barely had time to take a deep breath, and
there hasn't been a moment's respite since. |
