    Artist description
Currently residing in 250 Borders listening stations nationwide, Man, It's Cold is gaining high critical acclaim: "Whomever complains rock is dead should be force-fed the new sophomore release from Martin's Folly." - SPINOnLine Evoking memories of Dylan's classic "Highway 61 Revisited," comes Man, It's Cold, the second album from Martin's Folly. With creepier creeping, it's Martin's Folly all over again, only moreso. Chief personality Chris Gray, unperturbed as a cucumber by day, is possessed of an overheated imagination that hurls him out of bed at all hours of the night to jot down the mercurial germs that make up much of the album. "I write in front of the TV," says Gray, spoiling the illusion. "We pursue the elusive meeting place where abrasive sentiment lies down with the melodic incident," says piano player and stick figure Jim Duffy, who manipulated whirling speakers. Pat Fitzgerald was in that barn also, as drummer and rock archaeologist who identifies the sincerity impulse behind all true ballroom-rock phenomena. Fitzgerald doesn't want to say who Martin's Folly sounds like, but he wants to say Mott the Hoople. Completing the foursome is wild-card bassist Paul Page, who is best known for bringing abstraction to the upper reaches of the New York State Thruway. Page is busy at the moment, being fitted for his hound's-tooth suit. The band can be persuaded to play the occasional club date, but they are otherwise removed from polite society.
    Music Style
Wurly-rock! Ok, so what we really mean is that Martin's Folly is a rootsy-pop band that uses a Wurlitzer piano, but it goes far beyond that. You may hear a little Neil Young, Tom Petty, a little Burt Bacharach, maybe a little Pink Floyd, and perhaps a little ELO (not really, just wanted to make sure you were paying attention).
    Musical Influences
    Honky-tonk Stones, electric Dylan
    Artist History
Martin's Folly has been busting it out in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, for a couple of years now. They've been going scattershot up and down the Northeast, where their first album got some oddball airplay. They even go across the bridge sometimes into the big area.

    Press Reviews
"…a fabulous blend of classic pop rock it is." - Option "Martin's Folly puts a barbed spin on the Crazy Horse blueprint, delivering wry laments and pop-savvy garage workouts, with smart, sensitive production by roots-rock guru Eric Ambel." - Pulse "The band's songwriting infuses fresh, contemporary sounds with flavors of both the British pop invasion of the early 60's and the psychedelic folk of the Haight-Ashbury days of the late 60's." - The Musicians' Exchange
    Additional Info
