Artist description
Ivson Lins is a genuine Brazilian phenomenon. Born in Rio de Janeiro, he spent his teen years living on the streets, where he fled to escape an oppressive foster family. Despite numerous hardships, he pursued his musical passions, and soon achieved local fame, winning first place in Rio's annual vocal and songwriting competition.
An accomplished Brazilian singer, composer, guitarist, percussionist, dancer and choreographer, Ivson arrived in San Francisco in 1989, performing with many local Brazilian groups before founding Planet Rio (formerly Grupo Gosto) in 1992. His original compositions have earned top honors in San Francisco Carnival competitions since 1990.
His recent appearances include Erotic Exotic Ball (San Francisco, CA.), Festival at the Lake (Oakland, CA.), Carnival at the Hollywood Palladium, Yoshi's (Oakland, CA.) and opening act for the Neville Brothers at the Warfield (San Francisco, CA.).
