Artist History
Although Iced Earth have worked hard (and played even harder) to make their name a highly-respected one on the metal forefront, only a stout band of listeners -- those who remember Savatage when they were known as Avatar and Death when they went under the name Mantas -- can recount much of the group’s early days on the Florida scene. As many people predicted, 1996’s The Dark Saga heralded the band’s breakthrough, quickly becoming the best-selling album in their arduous career. A nonstop slate of touring helped to solidify their reputation as one of the best live bands on the circuit, blending their top-notch musical performance with dynamics and showmanship, winning over crowds while on tour with Nevermore and as part of the Summer Metal Meetings tour. |
