Artist description
Michael Hensley is a singer/songwriter who infuses electronic music with heart and emotion. His songs combine piano, strings, and other traditional instruments with pulsing synths and techno/hip-hop drum loops. The end result is a unique stylistic blend best described as "organic techno" or "symphonic electronica." He is primarily a songwriter, but has begun to stretch his skills into singing as seen on the four bonus tracks on his debut CD, "Feel Something."
Michael was born in Maine in 1981, and he began taking piano lessons and learning music theory as a teenager at the Portland Conservatory of Music. He graduated from Emerson College in 2003 where he earned a degree in Visual and Media Arts with a focus in Audio Production. He has also attended several programs and courses at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston.
Music is in Michael's blood, as he is a distant relative of country superstar Patsy Cline (whose real name is Virginia Hensley), while his grandfather played slide guitar with the legendary Jimmy Dean.
Michael's self-produced debut CD, "Feel Something," was released in September 2003 and is currently available on mp3.com, featuring 11 instrumental songs and four bonus vocal tracks. His style has been compared to such diverse artists as Moby, BT, Depeche Mode, Human League, Enya, David Gray, Bjork, and Madonna.
"Feel Something" features such lush songs as "Take Me Away" and "Stood in the Sunshine," as well as edgier cuts like "Can I Do This Alone" and "I Deserve Better." First single "Everyone Wants to Feel Something" has already begun receiving club play, and features heavily treated vocals set against a driving beat. |
