Artist History
Classically trained in piano and voice, Cynthia Lin came into her own when she discovered the freedoms of jazz and folk rock. "Classical training is great for technique," she says, "but jazz and folk music are all about expression and interpretation, and that's what I love about music, and what I think defines a true artist."
She began performing at jazz clubs in the Washington DC area in 2002, building up a broad repertoire of jazz standards. In the mean time, she had taught herself to play acoustic guitar and began writing folky songs. Cynthia debuted her original music in February 2003, playing various local coffeehouses and music venues.
In April 2003, she debuted her original music in New York City, to enthusiastic audience response. She is building a following in NYC and DC and plans to expand her geographical range of shows with a tour for her first album, due to release in the fall of 2003.
Cynthia is also an actress, who has appeared in several independent films and TV programs, as well as on local stages.
