Artist History
aleda was born over a bottle of scotch, in a cramped NYC apartment, to the sweet sounds of Janet Jackson. Guitarist and vocalist Colin Beers moved to NYC in 2001, leaving behind Boston and the band Long Distance Runner (with Matt Squire of Miltown; Derek Kerswill of Shadows Fall/Drive; and Pete Cortese, formerly of Overcast), as well as a fiance who was moonlighting as an alcoholic psychopath.
In NYC he met up with drummer Joseph McDonald, who had been doing theater and business gigs and enjoying his distance from the zydeco scene in Ithaca, NY. In a former life, Beers and McDonald had forged a relationship in Flooring Daphne, a mellow metal outfit that shared the stage with bands like Overcast and HateBreed. With this core writing partnership in place, aleda's dark rock sound developed quickly, though finding other band members would prove difficult.
Almost a year after inception aleda would finally be completed by bassist Joe Hardy, and guitarist Scott Barton. Hardy, classically trained, left his stand-up bass and a thousand broken hearts in Colorado to answer the New York rock and roll call. As for Barton, he was found selling shoes and vintage copies of Juggs on 23rd street.
That was aleda. Then Scott quit. But like a knight in seasoned leather, Eli Van Etten rode in on his custom Harley with so much guitar gear strapped to his chest he looked like a musical version of that dude from Raising Arizona. This is aleda.
