Artist description
Once in a while, a song is written that has you captivated by the end of the first verse. That first hearing that clasps your soul and refuses to let go. Music that, for once in this barren age, has something worthy to say and wants you to hear it. The music of The Dead Lovers certainly has something to say, as thoughtful, poetic lyrics are paired with absorbing complex melodies, with a darker edge. A lean towards the unconventional with a retention of striking musical beauty, helps to push The Dead Lovers into new ground for contemporary rock music. |

Group Members
The Dead Lovers are led by Toby Keane (Singer/Songwriter, Lead Guitar). Toby, 24, has received notable recognition, in the South West and nationally, as both a member of Breeze, his former band, which he formed while still at school, and also as a solo artist. Toby spent last year writing new material and recording at Edge Studios in Plymouth. It was here that he was offered an album deal and caught the attention of BMG and Polydor, who came to watch him record at Edge. Toby moved to Bristol to concentrate efforts on setting up the band and creating a stable base from which to work. Toby's appreciably observant and intense lyrical style, and exploratory guitar composition provide the backbone for The Dead Lovers' sound.
Completing the line-up are James Sayer, 22 (Drums) and Harry Purser, 23 (Bass). James, who was also drummer for Breeze, has returned to work with Toby after completing a degree in Music. Comfortable playing numerous other instruments, he is also an accomplished Jazz pianist and has played regularly in bars and clubs in Plymouth, and around the South West.
Harry joins the band as another multi-talented musician, comfortable playing guitar, bass and the keyboard. At 14, he was a member of teenage indie band Charlie, who were signed to a five-album recording contract with London Records. Harry played with Charlie for four years and brings this valuable experience to The Dead Lovers' stable. |
