Artist History
The band formed in the autumn of 2002 but the story begins much earlier. Guitarist Kevin Anderson and bass player Greg Burgess met at school in Elgin and went to college in Aberdeen. It was in college that they met guitarist Alan Hay and singer Fraser Bateman. After a year of the odd drink here and there the idea for the band came about in order to maybe get some free drink. Alan was then at university in the city and staying in halls of residence with Stuart Miller who could play the drums. The Shakes were formed.
The Shakes began gigging in the spring of 2003 and made it to the final of the Battle of the Bands and made as many enemies as they did friends. Since then the Shakes managed to string a few gigs together and establish themselves as the band that goes over their bar tab (if they get one)!
The songs are self penned by the band under a wide range of influences; from fifties and sixties Rock and Roll, blues, punk, eighties metal and the 90’s indie scene to give a slight difference to what many bands have in their arsenal.
Plans for the future are more gigs, write new material and of course to appear on the front cover of Rolling Stone magazine.
