    Artist History
The Monday Milkmen are more of a collective of musicians than they are a band. The core of the group is a trio of like minded people with influences ranging from Avante Guarde Jazz to Blue Grass and beyond, who enjoy exploring the outer reaches of improvisatory music. Philip Whitfield (keyboards/lead vocals/guitar), Josh Zalev (bass/background vocals/sandals) and Bradford Helner (drums/hair dye), who form the core of The Monday Milkmen, use that concept of a “floating fourth” member as a means of not only exploring improvisatory music, but also seeing what happens when new members are added to the mix. In effect, exploring more than just music, but the improvisational aspects of a bands make up. The concept is simple. Basically, the core trio performs with a “fourth member” whenever possible (that addition doesn’t always have to be the same person). This idea of a floating fourth is more metaphoric than literal, as it may be the addition of several people. When planned out, as it sometimes is, this augmentation of the core group also expands the repertoire that can be played. Taking it from pared down versions of songs into full fledged orchestrations. It is the element of the unknown that pushes the music into the further unexplored realms, bringing the musicians and the audience on a musical excursion together.

    Press Reviews
"The hippest fusion funk, this side of the Detroit River" -Ted Shaw, The Windsor Star “Feeding off each other, the solos flow endlessly, a metamorphosis of a living thing. These people are serious musicians, [playing] something you cannot fake your way through with recycled Stevie Wonder licks, or contorted, lead guitar player faces” -Chris Pacaud The Lance “The Band has mastered the early seventies progressive jazz-rock feel giving them a place somewhere in the neighborhood of Steely Dan, Stevie Wonder and Frank Zappa.” -Jeff Stiles Upfront
